Taiwan ScholarshipsFunding Government Agencies of Taiwan Scholarships and their focuses
A. There are two government agencies that fund this program, each with a different focus in terms of recipients’ nationalities and study programs:
1. MOFA Scholarship:
- Recipients from countries that have diplomatic relations with the R.O.C. (Taiwan) or countries specified as diplomatically favorable by MOFA.
- Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree programs. Embassies of the R.O.C. can also award a pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP) scholarship to recipients to improve their language abilities.

2. MOE Scholarship:
- Recipients from countries other than those specified in the MOFA Scholarship.
- Undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs.
B. LEP award
The LEP award is neither mandatory nor automatically granted; it has to be awarded by R.O.C. Embassies or Representative Offices where the applicant submitted his/her application. LEP must be undertaken in the first year if it is included in the total award period.

Taiwan ScholarshipsAmount of Scholarships
The amount of each scholarship varies in accordance with the funding government agency’s policy:
A. MOFA Taiwan Scholarship One economy-class, direct-route roundtrip international airfare, plus a monthly stipend of NTD30,000. A monthly stipend ofNTD25,000 for pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP) scholarship.
B. MOE Taiwan Scholarship Tuition and payment of academic fees: Upon validation of tuition and above fees, the MOE awards each recipient per semester up to NTD40,000. If the total amount of these fees should exceed NTD40,000, the remainder of all costs shall be covered by either the recipient, or the recipient’s college.
Subsistence allowance: A monthly stipend of NTD15,000 for undergraduate, and NTD20,000 for a postgraduate degree program. Recipients are responsible for their own daily expenses.

Award period in terms of study programs
The award period for each degree/study program is as follows:
A. Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years.
B. Master’s program: maximum 2 years.
C. Doctoral program: maximum 4 years.
D. LEP: maximum 1 year.
Maximum duration of combination of awards
Upon completion of a LEP or a degree program, a recipient may apply for a scholarship for a degree program leading to a higher degree. However, the total duration of award for any combination of degree/study programs is a maximum of five years.
Annual Award Period
Annual award periods are from September 1 through August 31 of the following year. Recipients must matriculate within the award period unless approved by the receiving institution and the scholarship funding government agency. If recipients fail to arrive in Taiwan to study during this period, their award status will be cancelled and cannot be extended for another year. If recipients begin their study after the intended study term/quarter has started, their award period will become effective from the month they matriculate at their universities/colleges or Mandarin training centers in Taiwan.
Expiration of Award
No matter if a recipient begins undertaking the language training courses in September or later, the LEP award period expires on August 31, even if its duration may be less than the designated one year period. All awards will end by the last month of their specified award period. However, if recipients graduate, drop out, are expelled from their institutions, violate R.O.C. laws, are given any major demerits, or their scholarships are revoked, whichever comes first, the award will be terminated.

Taiwan ScholarshipsEligibility
An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
A. Be a high school graduate or above, have an excellent academic performance in his/her most recent formal educational study experience, be of good moral character and does not have any criminal records.
B. Is not an R.O.C. (Taiwan) national.
C. Does not have the status of being an overseas compatriot student.
D. Has never enrolled at any educational institution in Taiwan for the same level of degree or LEP that he/she intends to matriculate with the aid of a Taiwan scholarship.
E. Is not an exchange student in accordance with any agreement of cooperation between an international university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan, at the time of receiving a Taiwan Scholarship.
F. Is not applying for a study program leading to the same level of degree as previously undertaken under the Taiwan Scholarship Program.
G. Does not have any revocation record regarding the Taiwan Scholarship Program nor from the Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program.
H. Is not a recipient of any other scholarship or subsidy offered by the Taiwan government or at any other educational institutions in Taiwan.

Taiwan ScholarshipsApplication
An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
A. Application period:2/1~3/31 .
B. For the application, the applicant must send completed documents to the nearest Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office in his/her home country, unless otherwise specified by a Taiwan's representative office. See website for nearest embassy or representative office.

Huayu Enrichment ScholarshipFunding Government Agencies of Taiwan Scholarships and their focuses
To encourage international students and individuals to undertake Mandarin Chinese language study in Taiwan, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) established the Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) Program in 2005. While providing language study opportunities for Mandarin Chinese and Taiwan's culture at university- or college-affiliated Mandarin training centers, this program also aims to:
A. Help scholarship recipients acquire a better command of Mandarin Chinese, and hence a greater understanding and appreciation of Taiwan's culture.
B. Promote friendship between people in Taiwan and in countries around the world.
C. Generate opportunities to increase exchange with international educational institutions.

Huayu Enrichment ScholarshipDuration and Amount of Scholarship
A. The monthly stipend is NTD25,000. Recipients are responsible for their own expenses. Recipients have to enroll in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwan's culture at university- or college-affiliated Mandarin training centers.
B. In general, the duration of award is one year. Taiwan Representative Offices can also grant recipients an award period of 9 months, 6 months, or 3 months.
C. The yearly award period is from September 1 through August 31 of the following year. If recipients fail to undertake their study in Taiwan during this period, their award status will be cancelled and cannot be extended for another year.

An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
A. Be of 18 years of age or older, a high school graduate or above, have an excellent academic performance in his/her most recent formal educational study experience and be of good moral character.
B. Is not an ROC (Taiwan) national.
C. Does not have the status of being an overseas compatriot student.
D. Has never been a student at a Mandarin training center, nor a degree-seeking student at any university or college in Taiwan.
E. Is not an exchange student in accordance with an agreement of cooperation between an international university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan, at the time of receiving a HES.
F. Has never received an award either under this scholarship program nor the Taiwan Scholarship Program.
G. Is not a recipient of any other scholarship or subsidy offered by the Taiwan government or any other educational institutions in Taiwan.
